Plantation Dog Rescue rescues and rehomes stray and abandoned dogs who other wise have nowhere to go.

The Recession is causing more diffulties for the rescue because people are having to return dogs due to losing their jobs or their homes, we have lost some of our monthly donations and rehoming has been very slow. Please help us in anyway that you can. If you have spare time we would be very grateful if you could help us with food/ money collections, table top sales, meet and greets and generally rasing awareness of our plight to save Plantation Dog Rescue and it's future....

WHAT WE DO

Plantation Dog Rescue opened in York, in January 2005. It began with a small number of dogs but rapidly increased to up to 20 dogs at any one time. There are so many stray dogs all over the country, but particularly in the North, and not enough funding or rescue centres to help them all. .....but we can save a lot of them with your help!

We pick up dogs from the council run kennels that are due to be put to sleep. All strays must serve their legal seven days in the stray kennels to give their owner a chance to claim them. If their owner doesn't come forward and the kennels are full, (which they usually are in the North) the dogs that have served their seven days will be put to sleep to make room for the new ones coming in each day. We go to the stray and kennels and pick up the dogs that are on death row.

We get them all the veterinary treatment that they need, including vaccinations, neutering, flea and worming treatments. We also microchip all the dogs. We assess them, do some training with them and then find them new homes.

*********We are struggling to keep 'Plantation Dog Rescue' Going **********

Since January 2005 we have rescued and rehomed over 200 dogs from Yorkshire and other areas and completed many people's families. With your help we can continue to give these dogs the chance that they deserve. At the moment we have very few direct debits/standing orders which are what Plantation Dog Rescue really needs to secure a future for the many unwanted and abandoned dogs in the UK. Not only do we have the veterinary bills to pay, but all the everyday running costs too. We are charged a very good half price rate of four pounds per day, per dog for using Plantation Boarding Kennels' kennels.

Well the recession is hitting us all hard, with many smaller rescues already closed or under threat of closure we are very afraid that we won't be far behind. More standing orders have been cancelled and depsite cutting the staff's hours drastically the boarding kennels is struggling. The set up for Plantation Dog Rescue is that is pays cut price rent to the boarding kennels for us if the kennels/staff/cleaning products etc. However the rescue is never able to pay it's full rent each month which has been allowed to pass for all this time byt the owner of the kennels but now that the kennels is struggling the rescue must pay it's full rent each month which despite cutting the number of dogs where possible is still proving near on impossible. If the kennels cannot keep an income coming from the boarding and the rescue it will close, leaving Plantation Dog Rescue with no premises. If the rescue were able to pay it's bills in full each month it would be enough to ride out the recession but at the moment we just can't see a way to do that.

We have a charity number for Plantation Dog Rescue which is no. 1124633.

Rather than giving us a one off donation please consider giving a smaller monthly donation, this enables us to budget each month for how many dogs we are able to rescue.

This is a genuine rescue centre, 99% of the dogs that we take in would literally die if we were not here.
